The Northwest Minnesota Women’s Fund, a component fund of the Northwest Minnesota Foundation, has announced their 2020 grant recipients.

Priority was given to applications that support the Women’s Fund goals:

  1. Supporting entrepreneurial opportunities for women
  2. Supporting programs that lead to a safer environment for women and girls
  3. Building networks of women in leadership positions throughout the region
  4. Encouraging and equipping girls to reach their full potential

This year the Women’s Fund selected two projects that will each receive $10,000 in funding:

  • Violence Intervention Project – Thief River Falls: The mission statement of the Violence Intervention Project (VIP) is “Restoring Hurt Lives and Building Stronger Communities”. VIP has worked since 1990 to end violence and acceptance of violence, regardless of form, in the communities of Kittson, Marshall, Pennington, Red Lake and Roseau counties. VIP will use their grant award to hire an on-site therapist. This position will support the 24-hour crisis hotline and will work with clients directly to take a more active approach to healing.

  • Camp HERO – Roseau: Camp HERO is a program through LifeCare Medical Center. This camp provides an engaging, hands-on summer camp experience, designed to expose girls to careers in Emergency Medical Services. They will use their grant funding to support camp operations and to keep costs low to free for campers to attend.

The Northwest Minnesota Women’s Fund develops resources and serves as a catalyst for improving the quality of life for women and girls.  They envision a region where women and girls reach their full potential and work toward that end through grants, scholarships, education, and recognition programs.
