December 6, 2021   (Bemidji, MN) – The George W. Neilson Foundation awarded $25,000 to support graduates of the Bemidji Career Academies who will attend Northwest Technical College (NTC) in Fall 2022. The goal is to award a $1,000 scholarship to 25 students.

The Bemidji Career Academies create unique learning opportunities for students and business partners. While attending the Academies, high school students build skills transferable to the workplace, taking courses specific to their chosen Career Academy. Health Careers, Manufacturing, Automotive Technology, Construction Trades, Child Care and Education, and Business are courses that align with program areas at NTC. The hope is that students will further their education after high school by gaining a quality technical education at NTC.

“The NTC Foundation began a partnership with the Bemidji Career Academies in 2018 with the hope to retain our homegrown students and their talent to provide the next generation of workforce for our community,” said Ashley Johnson, executive director NTC Foundation.

There are currently 800 students ranging from grades 9 through 12 partaking in the Bemidji Career Academies.

Brian Stefanich, Executive Director of the Bemidji Career Academy, and Ashley Johnson, Executive Director of the NTC Foundation, accept a check from the George W. Neilson Foundation to support graduates of the Bemidji Career Academies who will attend Northwest Technical College.
